Calligraphy is the art of beautiful lettering. It is an artform that is timeless and timely. As in Hebrew and Muslim written traditions, the letters themselves bear a grace and beauty that is shown to full advantage in calligraphic art and design.

In this calligraphy gallery, we are delighted to share some of the original artwork created by Word of Art as 'word paintings' that were commissioned over the past twenty years. These inspirational words,designed as paintings, are lasting reminders of who we are, why we are here and for what we strive.

We all recall significant words that have personal meaning - quotations, poems, prose, prayers, even song lyrics that are especially important to us. Often these are taken from the texts of our own faith community's literature. On other occasions they are inspirational texts that we serendipitously stumble across, or even compose ourselves when moved by strong emotion as in the case of September 11 that we commemorated with the powerful words of the poem 'One' by Cheryl Sawyer.
